Golden Ratio

Motion Design Lead

Golden Ratio

For the graduating class of 2022 from the University of Akron's Graphic Design program, I served as the lead motion designer for the motion design team responsible for creating our golden ratio projection map. I had the opportunity to work with a team of my classmates to develop cohesive designs that enhanced the style and aesthetic of our portfolio gallery show. We created simple designs using a black and white color scheme with minimal use of gray tones to add contrast and depth. These designs were animated by team members to produce short clips to be displayed within the golden ratio. I led the team by creating schedules, managing meetings, and overseeing content and scene development. I also handled filming for social media and other platforms, selected designs to advance, and made decisions on finishing animations and effects.

Key Notes

The overall composition was created by me personally. It was intended to reevaluate the elements of the past, including our lessons learned and rediscovered through prior experiences. I aimed for the theme of our presentation to acknowledge our predecessors and instructors, as well as our previous education, while emphasizing our future careers—the elements of the past, what we have learned and rediscovered through prior experiences. I wanted the theme of our show to reference our predecessors and professors, as well as our recent learning, while focusing on our future careers, with the element of ‘re’ —which is Latin for really. And often used to insinuate with words your influence and purpose. In English, this prefix commonly signifies "again" It is add” It is added to the beginning of words to indicate repetition or a return to a previous state or action.

"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants"

Isaac Newton wrote it in a letter to Robert Hooke in 1675.

This task was essential to be completed, albeit in a manner that avoided cheesiness. Regarding the Construction Document Preparation, once the concept was established, it was necessary to plan the projection mapping accordingly. With the assistance of my colleague, Jacob Vickers, we implemented the plan. Additionally, we advanced the overall intended color scheme, which included black, white, and shades of grey. The themes and composition were designed to be projected over the motion mapping, aligning with a Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic characterized by simple contrasts. This process was facilitated using software such as Adobe and Blender.
